Greetings from Vanderbilt Divinity Library! This is to inform you of an opportunity that may be of interest to ministers or religious educators who need access to a theoloogical library collection. 70 years ago a man with a vision, John Louis Kesler, opened up the doors of the Vanderbilt Divinity Library to clergy members by allowing them access through the mail to the library’s collections. Today, this door is still open through the Kesler service.

KESLER @ Vanderbilt Divinity Library offers persons engaged in or retired from ministry the privilege to borrow items from the Vanderbilt Divinity Library via postal mail. The service is absolutely free to patrons, as they are only responsible to pay return postage on items borrowed.

Our Mission and Purpose:

The mission of KESLER @ Vanderbilt Divinity Library is to provide access to a theological collection for persons actively engaged in or retired from ministry and who do not have ready access to theological materials.

The purpose of KESLER @ Vanderbilt Divinity Library is to provide materials for continuing education and ministerial support.

The goals of KESLER are to

  • Provide ministerial support by allowing persons engaged in ministry access to theological materials at Vanderbilt, including its Zimmerman Judaica Collection
  • Provide persons actively engaged in ministry research assistance with theologically-related topics

We invite any active or retired minister to take advantage of this opportunity. Just go to the Kesler website here. The website contains all of the information necessary to become a member and allows members to submit loan requests online.

Sincerely,
KESLER Librarian
Vanderbilt Divinity Library
